I was working with a client, and her struggle got me thinking about something so many of us face. We visualize, work on our mindset, and start believing in what’s possible. Then we “get it”—exactly what we asked for. And in the same breath, we somehow “destroy it,” maybe because doubts creep in, making it feel too good to be true (even though we literally just asked for the good to be soooo true, y’all, lol). Or maybe it’s that an old block we’ve been ignoring pops up, just wearing a new disguise.
For many, this block is rooted in things like intimacy, vulnerability, or even fear of the depth of our own feelings. We may “positive think” our way out of these fears, hoping to dodge them, but they linger, waiting to resurface when we’re triggered.
Building Skills for True Transformation
This is why skill-building is so essential in self-development. No amount of books, yoga, or breathwork will bypass the deepest truths about ourselves. The real work is in self-mastery. Know yourself, your edges, so well that when they’re tested, you can view your emotional responses as valuable information. With your own strategies, you’re able to work through, resolve, and rise above each challenge as a stronger version of yourself.
Out With The Old, In With The Nu
Just like an outdated operating system slows down a phone, sticking with old ways of thinking will eventually slow down your experience of life. You’ll miss out on new features and experiences just because you haven’t allowed for an upgrade—or because you’ve convinced yourself you’re fine as is (“if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” vibes). No judgment here; self-development isn’t for the faint of heart.
So, be conscious and intentional. But know this: things will slow down without growth. Space is needed for the new.
And the work of self-development never truly ends.
xoxo,
Nu
